Powers County Park 5/11/2024 Trip Report

Audubon Field Trip to the Powers Area of Coos County with a brief stop in Myrtle Point for our last stop. It was clear and sunny with temps ranging from 53-74F. We first birded the Powers pond, then took the one minute drive to the ranger station and birded there and walked from the parking area there to the bridge across the SF of the Coquille then over to Woodward Creek Road then and a ways up that road and back. Our last stop was back in Myrtle Point at the fairgrounds. There were many highlights but seeing a pair of Golden Eagles circling over us along Woodward Creek was perhaps the rarest treat of the day. We had great looks at a pair of Green Herons, Cassin’s Vireo, Chipping Sparrow, YB Chat and Lazuli Bunting to name just a few other fun species and of course two orioles and the Western Kingbird pair at the fairgrounds- what an awesome morning! We had 11 total including myself, 12 with Madrone who joined us at the fairgrounds in Myrtle Point.
